About
Give For Chris is a fund that was created in March of 2008 to help Christian Stieler. Shortly after Christian was born in 1995 he contracted Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, an infection that affects the blood. This infection spawned a growing war between Christian’s body and his kidneys making him have to go through a kidney transplant at a very young age. Christian was able to get a transplant early on but, after 11 years with his new kidney, it is now in a state of decline. For years, Christian has been in and out of hospitals experiencing symptoms stemming from issue with his kidneys and without another transplant, it will only continue.
All things considered, Christian has been able to live and maintain a normal childhood. He loves going to Yankee stadium, has a lot of friends, loves video games and making fun of his dad whenever he gets the chance. However, as time went on, he realized that he wasn’t growing as fast as the other kids in his Brooklyn neighborhood. Because the kidneys regulate growth, he is now 13 years old and undersized for his age.
Over the years, medical expenses were tolerable for the family and Christian was doing just fine. It wasn’t until 2004 that a divorce left Christian’s father with one income and a stack of bills while Christian got closer to where he is today in needing another kidney.
Christian Stieler, the inspiration behind Give For Chris, contracted a blood infection at a very young age that has made his life a lot more difficult. While our short term goal is to help Christian, our long term one is to help other kids like Christian get the care and support they need during difficult times like these.
